Michigan has an estimated 658 wolves in the Upper Peninsula overall, according to the Department of Natural Resources.<\/p>\n<p>The DNR recommended the limited hunt as part of a strategy aimed at cutting down on the number of wolves in parts of the U.P. where wolves have attacked livestock and pets. But allowing a hunt will upset a coalition that was formed with the intent of blocking a wolf hunt through a voter referendum.
