{"id":3671,"date":"2021-08-13T08:24:46","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T12:24:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/auchtoon.com\/?p=3671"},"modified":"2021-08-13T08:24:46","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T12:24:46","slug":"why-do-you-have-to-make-it-political","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/auchtoon.com\/?p=3671","title":{"rendered":"Why Do You Have to Make It Political?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/auchtoon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/JPA304.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"419\" src=\"http:\/\/auchtoon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/JPA304.jpg\" alt=\"Why Do You Have to Make It Political?\" class=\"wp-image-3672\" srcset=\"http:\/\/auchtoon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/JPA304.jpg 560w, http:\/\/auchtoon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/JPA304-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel&nbsp;like we&#8217;re at an advanced&nbsp;level of disinformation \u2014 where disinformation&nbsp;can now not only obscure the truth, it can completely replace it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Case in point (and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2021\/08\/10\/shirkey-skipping-mackinac-conference-because-vaccine-mandate\/5558816001\/\">quoting from a\u00a0<em>Detroit Free Press<\/em>\u00a0story<\/a>):\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The highest ranking elected Republican in Michigan expects to skip a popular policy conference on Mackinac Island this year because of the organizer mandating attendees be vaccinated against COVID-19.<\/p><p>Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, said the Detroit Regional Chamber &#8220;cowed to political science rather than embrac(ing) actual science&#8221; by mandating vaccines to attend the Mackinac Policy Conference. The statement contradicts the results of a recent study that indicates the previously infected who remain unvaccinated are at least twice as likely to get COVID-19 again as someone who is vaccinated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Shirkey does not just imply but openly&nbsp;claims that&nbsp;science is on his side. What he is arguing, of course, has nothing &#8220;science&#8221; about it \u2014 he&#8217;s just using the word. But if&nbsp;he can&nbsp;use &#8220;science&#8221;&nbsp;as his own \u2014 just say, &#8220;this is science&#8221; \u2014 then he apparently wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, if you accuse somebody of being political, but you yourself are the one that introduced politics into the discussion, you apparently win that, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that I&#8217;ve appropriated &#8220;winning&#8221; here to mean &#8220;everybody ends up losing.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I feel&nbsp;like we&#8217;re at an advanced&nbsp;level of disinformation \u2014 where disinformation&nbsp;can now not only obscure the truth, it can completely replace it.
