We continue to wrestle with finding the proper balance for the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michiganradio.org\/economy\/2023-08-30\/michigan-drivers-pay-the-highest-credit-penalty-for-car-insurance-in-the-u-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">continue to penalize people<\/a>&nbsp;based on their credit scores rather than driving records, which tends to price poor people out of car insurance so more go uninsured, which in turn boosts prices for everybody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Good news! We are not the only state experiencing auto insurance rate increases significantly outpacing inflation. The bad news, it&#8217;s an &#8220;in addition to&#8221; situation, not an &#8220;instead of&#8221; situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NPR had a story this week:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michiganradio.org\/2023-09-13\/4-reasons-why-your-car-insurance-premium-is-soaring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4 reasons why your car insurance premium is soaring<\/a>. Alas, all of them simply pile onto what we are already suffering from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is there any solace to be found? Well, some of those<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hsUxvMO-rq8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;Progressive commercials with Dr. Rick<\/a>&nbsp;are pretty funny.
