But as I write this, the opening has been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/gordie-howe-bridge-carney-no-drama-9.7229891\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">delayed&nbsp;<\/a>for &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/gordie-howe-bridge-us-canada-trump-detroit-12af9790c89b04969194802493bf0d46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unresolved issues<\/a>.&#8221; Those issues could be reasonable \u2014 last-minute safety protocols, weather delays pushing back finishing touches, that sort of thing. Or they could be yet even more jerking around by the Trump administration. (Maybe by the time you&#8217;re reading this, we know why.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In any case, the bridge will open soon. It&#8217;s a forward-thinking investment in economic development. It&#8217;s infrastructure that relieves a bottleneck and encourages trade. It&#8217;s the sort of project that shows the United States at its best. Except, of course, it was Canada that made it happen.
