I’m Now 3 for 7. What Are You?…

So the Obama win ends a long dry spell for this kid — I hadn’t voted for the winning presidential candidate since 1988, and it puts me at three wins in seven tries. In baseball, I’d be batting 429, which is awesome. In basketball, I’d be shooting 42.9%, which is not all that good. If I were a field goal kicker in football, I’d be getting cut.

But what about presidential elections? What’s your record? Post and let me know!

I don’t remember! Did I vote for Reagan? Did I vote for Bush #1? My record might be worse. It is sad to me that I do not remember who I voted for. Well, I hope I don’t forget who I voted for in THIS election.

Last night John and I popped popcorn and watched the results come in with the kids. Ellie came and went because she was busy watching the results online with friends online (she actually stayed up later than us and experienced Obama getting the win and then heard someone outside whooping it up). Natalina stuck with us for quite a while but then pronounced the television people scary and went to bed. Atticus was committed to hanging with it. He and I both fell asleep watching once the popcorn was gone. I hope all the kids remember this historic election.

I experienced a disturbing thing on the way home from taking Ellie to school this morning. A house on the main thoroughfare had many McCain/Palin signs in the yard. Their trash is at the curb and in it is their American Flag. That disturbed me.

    God bless America!

I’m 5 for 7 (you didn’t like Bill?). Our boys were very excited and coloring their own map. I told Ian to color in MA before CNN did – he said ‘are you sure?’ and I said ‘100%’. Fittingly, I learned that Barack Obama was officially President elect from Jon Stewart while watching his special with Stephen Colbert. It was really amazing to see the huge crowds gathered across the country and to hear both speeches. Republicans got spanked and it’s a credit to John McCain that he did as well as he did pushing dead weight uphill for 2 years. After feeling such dispair post-election 4 years ago, it was nice to go to bed feeling good last night.

At 3 for 8 my percentage is slightly less than yours John. Although, as a quarterback efficiency rating, it might land me the starting job for the Detroit Lions.

My numbers may have been better except for my late 80’s and 90’s love affairs with those independents; from the Founding Fathers channeling Libertarian to that pie chart tossing, southern wisdom slinging, clean up the muck in Washington, business man, I was an easy mark.

But, in most recent elections (sans yesterday) there has been no shame in voting for the “W”rong guy. Actually the last 2 elections, that we’ll call for the sake of conversation the “W” Elections, have left me with a new start-up business model. It involved a web site and an unmarked black semi-truck. In which the truck would visit WalMart parking lots in Republican strong hold cities and rural areas late at night. Drivers would discretely pull their BMW’s and pick-up trucks into the back of the unmarked semi. Once safely inside a surgical “W” bumper sticker extraction would take place. The next day the web site would post stories about UFO sightings in the area, and explain how these encounters with “illegal” aliens have led to erratic voting activity in some humans…Ah, but after last night, I guess I’ll have to think of a new career.

I dunno, Mert. After watching McCain’s very classy concession speech, I don’t think there will be much shame in sporting a McCain bumper sticker. But there could be big money in slicing the “Palin” portion off….

Don’t know if I can keep them straight… I think my record is right. Never have voted Republican for president. Overall, 3 for 10. Pretty poor. If it wasn’t for all those other people with poor judgment, I would be 10 for 10.
68 Humphrey – Lost to Nixon. Humphrey wasn’t very inspiring.
72 McGovern – Lost to Nixon. Can you believe Nixon twice? Kinda like Bush.
76 McCarthy – Lost to Carter. I think Carter was pretty good, actually.
80 Carter – Lost to Reagan
84 Mondale – Lost to Reagan. Mondale wasn’t very inspring.
88 I think I didn’t vote as a protest – Dukakis or Bush? Great choice. Another exciting Democratic candidate.
    92 Clinton – beat Bush.
    96 Clinton – beat Dole
00 Gore – lost (more or less) to Bush! Not very personable.
04 Kerry – lost to Bush. He was a stump. The Democrats have trouble finding inspiring candidates.
08 Obama – YES! The best candidate since I’ve been able to vote.

I’m 2 for 4 or 3 for 4 depending if you think the Supreme Court can decide elections 🙂 But 50%.

The night of the election (after they called it for Obama) I saw a car with a McCain/Palin sticker and purple cross sticker all scratched up. I hope it was the owner of the sticker expressing they disappointment and not someone else who did it. Either
