Why Don’t We Just Let Detroit Fail?…

I thought about putting effort into drawing the folks in panel two in much more stereotypical dress — the German in lederhosen, the Japanese in a kimono, the Australian in outback garb. But it occurred to be that this would be more distracting than helpful to the simple point, which is that the world considers “Detroit” and “Michigan” to be one and the same. Darn you cultural sensitivity! Ruining the fun in drawing borderline racist stereotypes!

How can you call yourself a political cartoonist if you’re not willing to use badly drawn offensive racial stereotypes to make your point? Mike Lester would be ashamed of you.

Or maybe it’s one of the McCoy brothers I’m thinking of. Or both. Or all of the above.

I’m going to go with “all of the above”.

…and Thomas Nast. Nobody could make the Irish look subhuman like Thomas Nast!
